At the Republic Day parade, four Mi-17V5 helicopters rained wreaths from the sky in a wineglass formation. Additionally, contingents of Centurion Tanks, PT-76s, MBT Arjun MK-Is, and APC Pukhrajs took part in the parade. Prime Minister Modi welcomed the President to Rajpath earlier. The parade began with a 21-gun salute.

In India, the Constitution became effective on 26 January. On 15 August 1947, India gained independence from the British, but on 26 January 1950, it became a sovereign democratic republic.
