Assam, Meghalaya and Sikkim flood-like situation, landslides and heavy rains continue

There is havoc being wreaked by floods in the three northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, and Sikkim. In some parts of Assam and Meghalaya, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rain; in many parts of the Northeast, there is an orange alert for rain.

Over 33,000 individuals have been impacted by the flood in Assam’s 14 affected districts. Three of the local rivers are flowing dangerously.

In Meghalaya, there have been numerous instances of landslides. Additionally, the period of intense rainfall is still going on. This has also resulted in one death here. Landslides have resulted in the complete closure of numerous routes. Poorly blocked roads connect Meghalaya to South Assam and Tripura.

The situation is worse than the floods in Sikkim as well. Some locations in this area have experienced landslides. Two days ago, during very heavy rain, there was a landslip in this area.

In the impacted areas, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert. The State Disaster Management Department is working on rescue and relief efforts concurrently. Additionally, the government regularly holds high-level meetings.
