Neil Basu, an Indian-origin officer, is at the head of the race to become the next commissioner of the London Metropolitan Police. The British media reported this information. His father was a surgeon from Kolkata and had moved to Britain in the 1960s where he married a Welsh nurse. Basu graduated from the University of Nottingham with a degree in economics, joined the Met Police in 1992, then became chief of counter-terrorism and specialist operations before becoming director of the College of Policing.
