Maharashtra government’s announcement on Maratha reservation, bill to give 10 percent reservation approved

Maratha Reservation: The Maharashtra government has started granting the Maratha community a ten percent reservation. A coalition government of Eknath Shinde, Shiv Sena-BJP, and NCP (Ajit group) is in place here. This morning, the Maratha Reservation Bill was approved by the Cabinet.

The government has promised that the Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation will remain unaffected and that the quota will be awarded to Marathas. Reservations have long been a demand of the Maratha community. The Maharashtra administration has called the assembly into a one-day special session. The Assembly may approve this bill in the evening.

Following the Mandal Commission, which Maratha leader Anna Saheb Patil established, the demand for the Maratha reservation arose for the first time in 1980. The Maharashtra Legislature has called a special session today to address the Maratha community’s requests for reservations and other matters.
