Microsoft outage halted work all over the world; services of flights, banks, media and companies were affected

Microsoft Outage: On Friday, blue screens in computers running Microsoft‘s Windows 10 operating system brought the entire world to a halt. As a result, numerous countries were forced to cancel flights, hospital and financial systems fell, and media outlets stopped operating. Worldwide businesses and services have been impacted by this outage.

It had a profound effect on Indian life as well. As a result, over 200 flight services were disrupted, causing significant issues for travelers in numerous locations such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Chennai. Simultaneously, the activities of stock market broker agencies have also been impacted, leading to issues with stock trading.

Dr. Sanjay Bahl, the Director General of the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, comments on the Microsoft global outage, saying, “This is a technical glitch.” Because confidentiality, integrity, and availability are the three aspects of cyber security. The factor of availability has been impacted. Thus, other than availability, nothing has been impacted. In comparison to Western nations, it had virtually little effect in India. The reason for this is that many individuals haven’t bought it as a tool for their protection because it needs to be purchased separately. People choose to use competitor products rather than CrowdStrike because they are readily available.”

Microsoft claimed that CrowdStrike, a third-party provider of cyber security software, was to blame for this issue. In an attempt to strengthen Windows 10’s defense against cyberattacks, CrowdStrike upgraded the operating system. However, due to a lack of technical coordination, thousands of machines’ screens eventually became blue (blue screen).
