British New PM: The claim of Indian-origin Rishi Sunak has gained traction in the race to become the next Prime Minister of Britain. Sunak has made a strong bid for the position of British PM after scoring a victory in the first round of elections. New British prime minister votes have already been cast in the first round. With 88 votes, Rishi Sunak won. The runner-up, Penny Mordaunt, minister of commerce, received 67 votes.

Liz Truss, the foreign minister, finished third with 50 votes. Kemi Badenoch, a former cabinet minister, received 40 votes. Suella Braverman, the attorney general, garnered 32 votes, while Tom Tugendhat, a backbencher, received 37.

Rishi Sunak’s claim is stronger

Indian-origin candidates Rishi Sunak and Suella Braverman advanced to the second round of voting in Britain after the first round. Sunak was ranked first among those who received votes. Penny Mordant was Rishi Sunak’s closest competitor, but he received 13 more votes.

2 of the 8 competitors are no longer in the race

Eight names were stamped for the first round of voting following the departure of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Following the completion of the nomination list, voting was conducted on Wednesday. In the first round of voting, two out of eight candidates were eliminated. Neither current chancellor Nadhim Zahawi nor ex-cabinet member Jeremy Hunt received enough votes to advance to the next round. To succeed in the first round, 30 MPs were required. It will be decided on September 5 who will become the new British prime minister.
