Mark Zuckerberg loses USD 7 billion after Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram suffer a worldwide outage

The Facebook CEO’s personal fortune plummeted on Monday as Mark Zuckerberg lost near to USD 7 billion in a few hours when social media giants Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram went down.

Mark Zuckerberg loses $ 7 billion

After Facebook’s stocks plunged following the global outage, Zuckerberg also fell to 5th on the Forbes billionaire list. Bill Gates has more wealth than Zuckerberg, with a total worth of USD 121.6 billion.

Facebook Inc.’s network suffered a major global outage yesterday which resulted in a flood of companies pulling their advertising from the social media giant’s network.

Previously, Mark Zuckerberg was ranked third in Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index. Forbes reports that Facebook’s stock fell 5% on Monday, extending its 15% loss since mid-September.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg apologized for the disruption to Facebook, Whatsapp, and Instagram; telling millions of his users that services will be returned to normal on Tuesday.

During a Facebook post, Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger were returning to service. “I’m sorry about today’s disruption — I know how much you rely on our services to stay in touch with the people you care about,” he said.

Similarly, WhatsApp and Instagram confirmed this through its official channel of Twitter and told that it will be rectified soon.

Thousands of Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram users, including those in India; were unable to access these platforms on Monday evening due to a global outage.

Facebook Apologized

Some of our applications and products are having trouble being accessed by some people. Facebook apologized for any inconvenience caused by the outage and vowed to restore things as soon as possible.

As netizens shared posts and memes about the outage, the microblogging platform Twitter was awash with tweets. Facebook users in India are among the most numerous of all its platforms.

Number of Users in India

In India, 51 crore people use WhatsApp, 41 crore people use Facebook, and 21 crore people use Instagram; according to government data released earlier this year.
