India’s DRDO today successfully flight-tested the new generation Akash (AKASH-NG) missile

Today, India’s DRDO successfully tested the New Generation AKASH (AKASH-NG) missile in flight. The test was carried out against a fast-moving, very low-altitude unmanned aerial target at dawn from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha. The weapon system successfully intercepted and destroyed the target during the flight test.

The information gathered by several radars, telemetry, and electro-optical tracking systems that ITR, Chandipur, deployed was also used to validate the system’s performance. Senior representatives from the Indian Air Force (IAF), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), and DRDO saw the flying test.

Mantri Raksha Regarding the flight test, Shri Rajnath Singh has expressed gratitude to the IAF, PSUs, DRDO, and industry. According to him, the system’s successful development will improve the nation’s air defense capabilities even further.

Modern missile systems like the AKASH-NG system can intercept fast-moving, nimble aircraft threats. The user trials are now possible because of the successful flying test.

On June 7, 2023, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a flight test of the New Generation Ballistic Missile “Agni Prime” from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. The flight test successfully demonstrated all objectives.

After three productive missile development tests, this was the first pre-induction night launch carried out by the users, proving the precision and dependability of the system.

In order to gather flight data covering the complete trajectory of the vehicle, range instrumentation like radar, telemetry, and electro-optical tracking systems was deployed at various sites, including two down-range ships, at the terminal position.
