Problem of drinking water in Siliguri, people standing in queue in front of a private drinking water supplier to buy water

Siliguri: Residents of Siliguri in West Bengal are facing a lot of problems with water. The water of Mahananda being supplied under Siliguri Municipal Corporation is contaminated and unsuitable for drinking. Teesta water is not available to the people of Siliguri because the repair work of the Teesta River is going on.

That is why Siliguri Municipal Corporation has requested not to drink the water supplied by the corporation. As an alternative, Siliguri Municipal Corporation is purifying the raw water of Mahananda and supplying it to the people of Siliguri.

Amit Shah visits West Bengal for two days, Will address public meeting in Siliguri today

Himalayan Hospitality and Tourism Development Network (HHTDN) has demanded that Bagdogra Airport, the only airport in North Bengal and Sikkim, not be repaired during the tourist season. HHTDN has contacted the Director of the Bagdogra Airport regarding this. In addition, the chief ministers of West Bengal and Sikkim have also been asked to intervene in this matter. HHTDN General Secretary Samrat Sanyal explained that earlier also a letter was sent to the Union Civil Aviation Minister, to the Chief Minister of West Bengal, and the Defense Minister of India about the matter. Heavy rain caused cracks in Balason Bridge in Siliguri, West Bengal, traffic was diverted

Siliguri News: Due to heavy rainfall in the Siliguri region since 20th Oct 2021, a pillar of the Balason Bridge at Matigara has been damaged. A traffic suspension has been implemented temporarily over the bridge for safety reasons. The Balason bridge is currently only open to two-wheelers and pedestrians.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Siliguri, Gaurav Sharma, examined the bridge, and police were instructed not to allow heavy vehicles to pass. The area has been heavily patrolled by police officers.

The Shiv Mandir underpass has been closed to all three-wheelers and heavy vehicles, so they should turn right and take Noukaghat Road instead. Until the weather improves, it is advised to avoid non-essential travel.

In Mahanadi (Kurseong to Sukna), landslides occurred due to heavy rain on Tuesday. Rohini Road and Pankabari Road, however, are open for traffic.

Heavy rains have caused damage to the Balason bridge, according to Police Commissioner Gaurav Sharma. Until the bridge is completely repaired, traffic has been diverted for the time being.
