A new “Push name within the chat list” feature for WhatsApp, a messaging service owned by Meta, is currently rolling out in iOS beta.

When a message from an unknown group member is received, beta testers will now display push names in the chat list instead of just phone numbers, according to WABetainfo.
Users won’t need to save the number as a new contact because of this functionality, making it simpler to identify unfamiliar connections. Large group chat participants may find it helpful to keep track of who is who in such chats.
