He was born into Gujarat’s Teli caste. The Indian Bureau of Census (BJP) designated this community as OBC in 2000. His caste at birth was common.
Rahul Gandhi, who is a critic of the BJP leadership at the federal level, declared that PM Modi will never consent to a caste census since he was born into the general caste and not the OBC.
