Center gives dearness allowance gift to government employees, DA hiked by 4%

A new installment of Dearness Allowance was approved by the Union Cabinet on Friday.

This additional payment will provide expense relief to government employees and pensioners. Payable beginning on January 1, 2023. As a result, the DA for central staff rose from 38 to 42 percent.

Both 69.76 lakh pensioners and 47.58 lakh employees will benefit from the increase in the dearness allowance.

West Bengal government employees to go on strike on March 9, reason is dearness allowance

On March 9, the United Forum of West Bengal Government Employees are calling a complete strike in all state government offices, following two days of a pen-down strike.

These workers are requesting that the outstanding dearness allowance arrears be paid. According to a Manch representative, March 9 was purposefully chosen as the strike date because by then the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) examinations would be finished.

According to the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare, Dearness Relief (DR) for Central Government pensioners who are families has been increased from 3 percent to 34 percent with effect from January 1, 2022. Department of State tweeted that the new family pension rate has been rolled out for Central Government pensioners and family pensioners. On January 1, 2022, a new rate was implemented.

Dearness relief has been reduced to 34 percent of the basic pension and family pension. Earlier, it was 31 percent. An additional installment of Dearness Allowance has been approved by the Union Cabinet for Central Government employees & a Dearness Relief payment has been approved for pensioners. The new rate is 3 percent higher than the existing 31 percent of Basic Pay.

DR rates will be applicable to the following categories:

The DR rates will be applicable to pensioners and family pensioners who are civil servants in the Central Government. Further, pensioners absorbed into PSUs and autonomous bodies for whom the 15-year commutation period has expired under this Department’s Office Memorandum 4/34/2002-P&PW(D) Vol-II dated 23.06.2017 until after that orders for full pension restoration have been issued.

Pensioners from all India service pensions, pensioners from railways and families, and provisional pensioners. OM no.23/3/2008-P&PW(B) dated 01.09.2017 was issued in respect of Burma Civil Pensioners/Family Pensioners and Families of Government Pensioners displaced from Burma/Pakistan.

Calculation of pension

According to the Pensioners Portal, DRs are generally declared twice a year during the months of March and September. Based on the DR rates for December of the previous year, the DR will be calculated for the months of January and February for the pension/family pension. The DR for the months of July and August will also be calculated as per the DR rates for June.
