According to the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare, Dearness Relief (DR) for Central Government pensioners who are families has been increased from 3 percent to 34 percent with effect from January 1, 2022. Department of State tweeted that the new family pension rate has been rolled out for Central Government pensioners and family pensioners. On January 1, 2022, a new rate was implemented.

Dearness relief has been reduced to 34 percent of the basic pension and family pension. Earlier, it was 31 percent. An additional installment of Dearness Allowance has been approved by the Union Cabinet for Central Government employees & a Dearness Relief payment has been approved for pensioners. The new rate is 3 percent higher than the existing 31 percent of Basic Pay.
DR rates will be applicable to the following categories:
The DR rates will be applicable to pensioners and family pensioners who are civil servants in the Central Government. Further, pensioners absorbed into PSUs and autonomous bodies for whom the 15-year commutation period has expired under this Department’s Office Memorandum 4/34/2002-P&PW(D) Vol-II dated 23.06.2017 until after that orders for full pension restoration have been issued.

Pensioners from all India service pensions, pensioners from railways and families, and provisional pensioners. OM no.23/3/2008-P&PW(B) dated 01.09.2017 was issued in respect of Burma Civil Pensioners/Family Pensioners and Families of Government Pensioners displaced from Burma/Pakistan.
Calculation of pension
According to the Pensioners Portal, DRs are generally declared twice a year during the months of March and September. Based on the DR rates for December of the previous year, the DR will be calculated for the months of January and February for the pension/family pension. The DR for the months of July and August will also be calculated as per the DR rates for June.
