Kantara Chapter 1 Review: Rishab Shetty‘s highly anticipated prequel, Kantara Chapter 1, has delivered a strong opening at the Hindi box office, collecting ₹18.50 crore net on its first day (Thursday). Film critic Taran Adarsh noted that while franchise hype and the long holiday weekend (Dussehra – Gandhi Jayanti) set high initial expectations, the film’s success is truly a testament to audience feedback. The first Kantara in 2022 was a massive, word-of-mouth hit in the Hindi region, and this prequel looks set to follow the same trend.

The film’s performance on release day was a surprise twist for the trade. Given only moderate advance bookings that picked up just a day before release, a section of the industry was expecting an opening closer to the ₹12 crore range. However, the tide completely turned on Thursday. Strong spot bookings, or ‘walk-ins,’ combined with phenomenal word-of-mouth from early viewers, helped the collection soar past predictions to hit a strong ₹18.50 crore.

Unlike high-buzz, ‘front-loaded’ films like KGF or Pushpa that rely heavily on opening day mania, Kantara Chapter 1 is proving to be a true word-of-mouth film. Analysts predict this positive audience response will fuel significant growth in collections over the coming days. The film is now expected to witness strong gains on Saturday and Sunday, positioning it for a big opening weekend haul at the box office.

Kantara Chapter 1 Updates: Hombale Films, the production company behind the blockbuster success of Kantara, has officially announced the release of Kantara Chapter 1. The much-anticipated first look of the film, directed and starring the versatile Rishab Shetty, is set to be unveiled on November 27, 2023, accompanied by an auspicious mahurat ceremony.

Following the tremendous success of ‘Kantara,’ the production house is gearing up to take audiences on an exhilarating journey with the prequel, ‘Kantara Chapter 1.’ This revelation comes as a beacon of excitement for fans who have eagerly awaited the next installment in this cinematic saga.

The film is produced by Vijay Kiragandur. The multilingual film will be released in not one, but seven languages. ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ will be available in Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali, and English.

Kantara’s box office collection looks stellar, beating KGF Chapter 2’s collection in Karnataka

The box office trend for Kantara remains high as the film had a stellar second week. There was a 38% increase in revenue yesterday over the previous Monday and a 5% increase over its second Friday. Kantara’s entire box office receipts as of yesterday were approximately 48.50 crores of rupees, and today they will surpass the 50 crores threshold.

Karnataka generates the most of the revenue with 46.30 crore rupees, followed by the rest of India with 2.20 crore rupees from a restricted sale of the Kannada version. Next week will see the release of the dubbed versions in other languages, which will increase revenue from sales outside of the home country.

Kantara’s box office collection

Kantara made around Rs. 4.30 crores in Karnataka yesterday, which is more than KGF 2’s second Monday gross of Rs. 3.30 crores.

In the South Canara region, Kantara was already outpacing KGF Chapter 2‘s daily collections; now, it has begun to do so at the state level. How long it can last like this will be interesting to observe. Despite having lower ticket prices in the first week, the movie is a historic smash in South Canara and is expected to surpass KGF 2 as the highest-grosser ever.
