Mumbai News: Maharashtra’s shops will remain closed today as the Maha Vikas Aghadi government has called the Maharashtra bandh. As a show of solidarity with farmers in Uttar Pradesh and to express regret for the deaths in Lakhimpur Kheri.

The state chief of the Congress, Nana Patole, and the city leader Bhai Jagtap are scheduled to take part in a sit-in at Raj Bhavan. The developments in Uttar Pradesh, said Patole, were a threat to democracy.

Due to the Maharashtra bandh, Mumbai and its neighboring areas experienced public transport disruptions today, while most commercial establishments and shops remained closed.

In the western suburbs, a Shiv Sena shakha pramukh said: “We are being told that shops should be closed, but not to get out and create a ruckus as we are in power.” The Vashi APMC and most agricultural market produce committees will remain closed on Monday.

APMC Market in Pune was closed in support of Maha Vikas Aghadi’s call for a Maharashtra bandh over the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri.

On Monday, the Mumbai Electric Supply and Transport service (BEST) buses were not operational.
