TMC wins panchayat elections in West Bengal, BJP comes second

West Bengal’s panchayat elections saw a lopsided victory for the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Out of 3317 seats, TMC has won 2552 of them overall in this election. Additionally, TMC won 232 Panchayat Samiti seats and 12 of the 20 seats in the Zilla Parishad.

Second place went to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Seven panchayat samiti and a total of 212-gram panchayats have been won by the BJP. However, the BJP’s account in the Zilla Parishad could not be opened. In many seats, the election results are still pending.

BJP constitutes a four-member fact-finding committee to visit violence-affected areas in West Bengal

The violent game had begun in West Bengal with the publication of nominees for the panchayat elections on June 5. A four-member inquiry committee has been established by the Bharatiya Janata Party to look into the state’s panchayat elections violence.

Former Union ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad, Satyapal Singh, Rajdeep Roy, and Rekha Verma have all remained on this team under Party national president JP Nadda. In order to look into the causes of the violence, this committee will visit the violent districts of Bengal. As soon as it has finished, it will create a report and provide it to the National President.

In Bengal on Saturday, there were 19 fatalities in the violence that occurred during the panchayat elections. A number of voting places were looted. The voting box had been looted by the criminals. The ballot box was witnessed being thrown down the sewer as people fled. The DMs of every district have been asked to submit a thorough report on the election-related violence to the State Election Commission.

West Bengal Panchayat elections: BJP reached the High Court due to non-deployment of central forces

The BJP filed a complaint with the High Court on the incidence of violence that occurred during nomination for the West Bengal panchayat elections.

The BJP further asserts that in defiance of the court’s directive, central forces are not being deployed. The state administration was ordered by the Calcutta High Court to use central forces in the panchayat elections in its decision from Tuesday. Specifically, directives were given to hold panchayat elections in seven districts with central forces present.

The plea was submitted by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, the state president of the Congress, and opposition leader Shubhendu Adhikari.

West Bengal State Election Commission starts preparations for Panchayat elections

By releasing a notification directing the preparation of voting booths in the rural pockets, the West Bengal State Election Commission (WBSEC) has begun the preparation process for the upcoming panchayat elections.

However, the polling dates have not yet been made public. The Commission requested that District Magistrates send a list of potential polling places for the rural civic elections by March 31 in the notification.

The Commission will release a draft list of polling places on April 5 in light of this. The WBSEC will ask various political parties for their opinions on this count after the draft list is published.

The final list of polling places will be released on April 28 after amendments have been made based on the parties’ requests by April 25.
