5.0 magnitude earthquake struck 201 km southeast of Fakfak, Indonesia

A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck 201 kilometers southeast of Fakfak, Indonesia, on Tuesday, according to the US Geological Survey.

The earthquake struck the area at 04:07 GMT, with its epicenter located at 133.74 degrees east longitude and 4.03 degrees south latitude. It was 10.0 kilometers deep.

According to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 occurred on Monday in the Indonesia province of North Maluku. According to the agency, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 168 kilometers (104 miles) beneath the surface, 11 kilometers (6.8 miles) northeast of the town of Jailolo in North Maluku. There were no early reports of earthquake-related harm or fatalities.

Indonesia is located in the middle of the so-called “Pacific Ring of Fire,” a region with active tectonic plates and a high seismic activity zone.

The Geophysics Agency of Indonesia reports that this earthquake had a Richter scale magnitude of 7.3. A tsunami warning was also issued for around two hours along with this earthquake.

6.0 magnitude earthquake in Indonesia, said – no potential danger of tsunami

Tuesday’s earthquake in Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara island had a value of 6.0 on the Richter scale. According to the geophysics agency, a tsunami is not expected to occur as a result of the earthquake.

The epicenter of the earthquake was situated in the eastern Indonesia region, not far from Timor Leste, at a depth of 75 kilometers. The tremor was lightly felt on land in some sections of East Nusa Tenggara due to the epicenter’s remote location, but there were no initial reports of damage, according to the agency.
