In Red Notice, there’s no serious heist. Despite a feeble plot and humor loaded with A-list talent, The Madness is an entertaining experience.

Based on a tip from The Bishop (Gal Gadot), the FBI’s John Hartley (Johnson) is in Rome trying to prevent the theft of a priceless Egyptian egg, once owned by Cleopatra. John’s mind is always occupied with a glib one-liner as he goes after art thief Nolan Booth (Reynolds), who is second in talent and respect only to the active and swift Bishop.

A prize sale on the jewel thieves’ market awaits the first person to find the third egg in the trio and complete the trio.

They travel from Italy to Bali to Russia in search of treasure. Hartley and Booth are notorious for their fast and furious wisecracks. Despite being able to outsmart them, will the Interpol inspector Das (Ritu Arya) catch them before they catch all three eggs? The story is presented in this form. In the end, the movie takes a surprising turn, which leaves the door open for a sequel.

Several homages to Indiana Jones are evident in the backstory, including a treasure hunt, Nolan’s costume, and his whistling of the theme from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Each of the leads has something to offer their fan bases. Deadpool fans can expect Reynolds’ trademark humor, while Wonder Woman fans can count on Gadot’s glamorous performance. Those who follow Johnson can expect self-deprecating jibes as well as action. It’s the quintessential buddy comedy duo, Johnson and Reynolds.
