Heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, school-college holiday order in many districts

Tamil Nadu Rain Alert: Many areas of Tamil Nadu, especially the northern part, saw nighttime rain. In addition to Chennai and the nearby cities of Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, and Tiruvarur also had significant rainfall. As a result, numerous districts’ authorities announced Monday to be a school holiday.

Due to 24 hours of nonstop rain, Puducherry saw a disruption in normal life on Monday, and schools and colleges were given instructions to observe holidays.

According to the Regional Meteorological Center, the district saw 167 mm of rain at its highest point between 8.30 am on July 7 and 5.30 am on Monday. During this time, 122 mm of rain fell in Karaikal, Puducherry.

The southeast winds and low-pressure region in the Bay of Bengal are causing heavy showers. Every low-lying area has flooding. According to sources, there has been crop damage in numerous areas of the Union Territory.
