Mexico mass shooting: Tuesday’s mass shooting in Chicomucelo, a small hamlet in the southern state of Chiapas, Mexico, claimed the lives of eleven individuals. There was violence between these drug cartels on Monday.

The incident happened in the Chiapas hamlet of Chicomucelo, according to the prosecutor’s office. Trafficking in migrants and drugs is well-known in the region. There has been violence between drug trafficking organizations in this region, and most recently on Monday, there was hostilities between groups that distribute drugs.

Chiapas is becoming more violent as the competing Sinaloa and Jalisco New Generation cartels fight for dominance. As a result, cartels have forced the recruitment of locals and taken control of routes used to smuggle weapons, drugs, and migrants, displacing thousands of people in the process.
