India achieves 100 crore vaccination milestone

On Thursday, India reached a milestone of 100 crore vaccination doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. Just over 9 months have passed since the nationwide immunization drive began on January 16, 2021.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated the 130 crore Indians for pulling off this incredible achievement. Afterward, they thanked the medical health professionals and citizens who made it possible.

Nearly 75 percent of adults have received their first dose of the vaccination, according to the government, and 31 percent have received both doses. In terms of vaccination doses administered, Uttar Pradesh has administered the most (12 crores), followed by Maharashtra and Gujarat.

To commemorate the 100 crore doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, the Centre has planned a series of events. At the historic Red Fort, the country’s largest Khadi flag will be displayed and a song will be released by Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

On Thursday, Jagat Prakash Nadda, the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), will pay a visit to Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. According to news agency ANI, Nadda will review the functioning of the vaccination center at Kailash Mansarovar Bhawan at 10.30 am on October 21.

Left parties also doubted if the country will reach the target of vaccinating all adults against Covid-19 by the end of the year since only 31% of the population has already received both doses.
