Maratha Reservation: The Maharashtra government has started granting the Maratha community a ten percent reservation. A coalition government of Eknath Shinde, Shiv Sena-BJP, and NCP (Ajit group) is in place here. This morning, the Maratha Reservation Bill was approved by the Cabinet.

The government has promised that the Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation will remain unaffected and that the quota will be awarded to Marathas. Reservations have long been a demand of the Maratha community. The Maharashtra administration has called the assembly into a one-day special session. The Assembly may approve this bill in the evening.
