A new system of rebate in electricity bills is expected to place a financial burden of about 1000 crores on Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited each year. To facilitate this, the state government has decided to grant UPPCL a grant. Chief Minister’s Office tweeted about this new decision on Thursday.

After getting the grant from the government, the electricity rates will change. In the new rates, instead of paying ₹ 2 / unit on metered connections in rural areas, only ₹1 / unit will be required. It will cost *35/horsepower instead of *70 for this connection. As for an unmetered connection, the fixed charge will be ₹85 per horsepower, not ₹170 per horsepower.

For Energy Efficient Pump at the rate of ₹1.65/unit (fix charge of ₹70/horsepower), farmers now only have to pay ₹0.83/unit (fix charge of ₹35/horsepower). Farmers in urban areas will now have to pay only *3/unit (fixed charge *65/horsepower) instead of paying *6/unit (fixed charge *130/horsepower) for private tube wells with metered connections. The decision of the Chief Minister directly benefits about 13 lakh consumers of tube wells.

Bharatiya Janata Party State President Swatantradev Singh tweeted that the Yogi government has taken an important and historic decision to give farmers a 50% discount on electricity bills. Firstly, I would like to congratulate all the food donors on this occasion and thank Yogi Adityanath Ji for his leadership.
