America secretly bought more fuel from Russia than India, report claims

In a report, the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (think-tank Center for Research Energy and Clean Air) claims that not India, but the United States is ahead in purchasing fossil fuels from Russia. Since the Russia-Ukraine War, European countries and the US have been more heavily involved in purchasing fuel than India.

S Jaishankar, India’s External Affairs Minister, also spoke about the country’s intentions to purchase oil from Russia earlier in the day. In a press conference in America, S Jaishankar (India’s Minister of External Affairs) also said that India buys much less oil from Russia than Europe.

After the Russo-Ukraine war, India was reprimanded by US President Joe Biden due to India’s private sector companies and Reliance Oil buying more crude oil from Russia. The data revealed that India had bought 30 million barrels of fossil fuels from Russia since the Great War (Russia-Ukraine War 2022).

Russia Discount Offer On Crude Oil For India

In addition, Russia is offering India a discount on the purchase of crude oil, whilst India has issued an official statement making it clear that the discount of $30 per barrel is not attractive to it. CREA (Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air) claims that European countries received 71% of the 63 billion euros for crude oil from Russia in the last two months. The participation of Germany in this has been at the top.

For India, it has been reported that the country’s coal shipments have risen by 130% in the first three weeks of April compared to January-February.

Prime Minister is on a two-day visit to India to hold in-depth talks on Britain and India’s strategic military, diplomatic, and economic partnership, which aims to enhance company and coordination in the Indo-Pacific region.

Prime Minister will also hold talks with Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar. There will be a press conference at Hyderabad House at around 1 pm. Prime Minister Johnson arrived in Gujarat on Thursday for a two-day visit to India.

Russia-Ukraine War: PIL filed in Supreme Court for evacuation of Indians from Ukraine

The Supreme Court heard arguments regarding the Russia-Ukraine tension on Thursday. An application has been filed in the court to direct the central government to expedite the evacuation of Indian students and civilians trapped in war-torn Ukraine. A PIL filed by Supreme Court lawyer Vishal Tiwari seeks an early hearing in the case.

Meanwhile, the petition demanded the supply of emergency supplies, including medical and food supplies, to those stranded in Ukraine amid the deadly offensive by Russian forces. According to the petitioner, bringing back Indian citizens is the responsibility of the government.

The petition claims, “Students across our country are stuck in Ukraine, and their families are begging the government for assistance.” The government is liable for the security and well-being of its citizens not only at home but also abroad, especially when the people are helpless and there is no means of transportation. The government will have to take several diplomatic measures.”

In the wake of the Russian attack in Ukraine, hundreds of Indian students have requested their safe return. There were several videos on social media showing students in tears urging the Indian authorities to arrange for their evacuation.

In a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, several state governments have urged the Center to accelerate the evacuation of Indian citizens. The Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of External Affairs have been contacted by chief ministers from Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Maharashtra to request the safe return of their citizens.

The Ministry of External Affairs issues an advisory to Indian citizens in Ukraine

Indian students and citizens living in Ukraine have received an advisory from the Indian Embassy in Kiev. During the Russian offensive in Ukraine, the country has declared martial law, making travel difficult. The Indian Embassy claims that it is in touch with local establishments to accommodate the stranded students in Kiev.
