Typhoon in China due to ‘Muifa’, announcement of closure of schools, warning of strong winds and heavy rain

On Thursday, typhoon Muifa is headed for China‘s east coast. Strong winds and torrential rain earlier hit Shanghai due to the storm last night. The storm, which had maximum winds of 125 kilometers per hour (77 miles per hour) when it slammed the coast late on Wednesday, had weakened into a tropical cyclone by morning, according to China’s National Meteorological Center. On Thursday, it is anticipated to weaken much more as it moves toward Jiangsu province’s eastern regions.

Public transportation services were resumed on Thursday, and there were no casualties associated with the storm in the Shanghai region. Jiangsu has received a warning for heavy rain due to the storm’s impact, and all districts in the province shuttered their schools on Thursday. A high wind speed of 108 kilometers per hour is predicted for Thursday morning, according to the National Meteorological Center, with winds progressively decreasing throughout the day.

In the meantime, Jiangsu province is expected to see both heavy rain and thunderstorms, according to the Meteorological Department.
