ED files prosecution complaint against TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan and three others in a money laundering case

West Bengal: The challenges surrounding TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan are getting worse. In a money laundering investigation, the Enforcement Directorate has filed a criminal charge against Sheikh Shahjahan, the leader of the TMC, and three other individuals.

Based on 13 First Information Reports (FIRs) against Sheikh Shahjahan and others filed by the West Bengal Police under various sections of the IPC Act, 1860, and the Arms Act, 1959, the ED has opened an inquiry. Shahjahan and other individuals are accused of engaging in organized crime, including harming people, committing murder or attempting to commit murder, threatening extortion, seizing public land, and receiving illicit financial gains and benefits.

In the money laundering case against Shahjahan Sheikh and others, the Kolkata Regional Office of the ED has filed a prosecution complaint (PC) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 against SK Sahajan, SK Alamgir, Shib Prasad Hazra, and others before Special Judge, CBI-1, Bichar Bhavan, Kolkata.

According to the ED investigation, Shahjahan established a criminal empire centered on land grabs, illicit fishing and trade, occupying brick fields, contract cartelization, collecting illicit taxes and levies, and receiving commissions on land sales.

Sandeshkhali Case: For several days, West Bengal witnessed protests over the arrest of Sheikh Shahjahan, the primary offender who was evading capture in the Sandeshkhali case. Here, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling TMC were engaged in a verbal battle. Amidst all of this, on Thursday, February 29, Sheikh Shahjahan was taken into custody; yet, the two sides’ verbal attacks continued.

“This is not an arrest, this is mutual coordination,” says West Bengal LOP Suvendu Adhikari about the arrest of TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan. Justice will not be served to the people there unless the central agencies arrest him. He’ll have access to five-star prison facilities. He’ll utilize the inside cell phone to take control of the area.”

Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in West Bengal, and BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh departed for Sandeshkhali. Suvendu Adhikari has been granted permission by the Calcutta High Court to travel to Jelliakhalia and Haldarpara in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas.

TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan brought to Basirhat police lockup after arrest

West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali is currently the topic of conversation. On Thursday, Sheikh Shahjahan was taken into custody by West Bengal Police on charges of land grabbing and sexual harassment. Shahjahan was taken to the police jail in Basirhat at approximately five in the morning after being picked up by the police from the Sarberia neighborhood last night. Shahjahan showed up in Basirhat court this morning at 11:00 a.m.

Sandeshkhali’s residents claim that TMC leader Shahjahan Shaikh has appropriated people’s land and sexually abused the local women. He threatened to beat and kill anyone who protested this.

ADG (South Bengal) Supratim Sarkar announced that he was taken into custody in connection with an incident involving an attack on ED personnel during a raid on January 5, 2024.

Meanwhile, the state’s Mamata Banerjee government has received reprimanded from the Calcutta High Court. Subsequently, the government of Mamata Banerjee discussed apprehending Sheikh Shahjahan in less than a week. Sheikh Shahjahan has already been taken into custody by the West Bengal Police.

ISF MLA Nawsad Siddique, staunch opponent of TMC, who was going to Sandeshkhali, arrested, massive demonstration took place

West Bengal politics these days seem to be circling Sandeshkhali. These days, the violence in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas area, namely in the village of Sandeshkhali, is making headlines. The TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan is accused by the village’s women of stealing their land and abusing some of them sexually.

Meanwhile, the problems of Mamata Banerjee‘s government do not seem to be reducing. He is the target of constant protests from the opposition. Nawsad Siddique, an Indian Secular Front (ISF) MLA, and a reputed TMC sceptic, was prevented from traveling to Sandeshkhali.

The only member of the All India Secular Front (AISF) in the West Bengal Assembly, Nawsad Siddique, was detained early on Tuesday morning while en route to Sandeshkhali. In this troubled area, ongoing protests have sparked new unrest.

Court Seeks Police Report Ahead of Hearing on Trinamool Leader’s Anticipatory Bail Plea for Attack on ED and CAPF Personnel

West Bengal: Before the important hearing on the anticipatory bail plea filed by the attack mastermind and absconding Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan on February 26, a lower district court in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal has requested a comprehensive police report on the attack on ED and CAPF personnel in the state.
