Today marks the beginning of the Parliament’s budget session once more. Today, the government can introduce numerous bills in the Parliament, one of which might be a proposal from the Modi government to change the Waqf Board Act. As a result, a contentious discussion between the ruling parties and the opposition may arise.
Approximately forty revisions to the current Waqf Act are being prepared by the central government. On this, the government may introduce a new bill in the Parliament. Currently, the Waqf Board has the right to take possession of property that has been dedicated as Waqf in the past and the Waqf Board has the legal basis for it. The new bill could ban this. There is currently discussion about reducing more of these rights.
Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi stated, “This is very important,” in response to media rumors that the Center was bringing a measure to seize control of Wakf Board properties. There are no boundaries after the Wakf Board declares the land to be theirs. It is thought that they will need to be heard. There are at least 1000 acres of such land that have been invaded by the Wakf Board.”
