Trouble increases for TMC leader Mahua Moitra, ED registers case under PMLA Act

Mahua Moitra, the leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and a former MP, is going to have further problems. The Enforcement Directorate has filed a money laundering case against Mahua Moitra in a cash-for-query row.

Mahua Moitra had just received a new summons from the Central Investigation Agency to appear for interrogation over the FEMA violation case, but she disregarded it.

Mahua Moitra and businessman Darshan Hiranandani of Dubai were summoned by the Enforcement Department (ED) to appear in court on alleged violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

The central agency had twice summoned Mahua Moitra for questioning; however, she did not show up, citing official responsibilities, and she requested a postponement of the notice.

Sandeshkhali Case: For several days, West Bengal witnessed protests over the arrest of Sheikh Shahjahan, the primary offender who was evading capture in the Sandeshkhali case. Here, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling TMC were engaged in a verbal battle. Amidst all of this, on Thursday, February 29, Sheikh Shahjahan was taken into custody; yet, the two sides’ verbal attacks continued.

“This is not an arrest, this is mutual coordination,” says West Bengal LOP Suvendu Adhikari about the arrest of TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan. Justice will not be served to the people there unless the central agencies arrest him. He’ll have access to five-star prison facilities. He’ll utilize the inside cell phone to take control of the area.”

West Bengal Congress leader Koustav Bagchi resigns from the party, may join BJP

Leader and advocate of the West Bengal Congress and party member Koustav Bagchi resigned from the party on Wednesday, citing the party’s top command as having “more interest in forging a friendship with the TMC than strengthening the state party unit” and viewing “the Trinamool Congress as its West Bengal unit.”

There are several rumors that Bagchi will probably join the BJP before the next Lok Sabha elections.

In his letter, Bagchi said, “I believe the urge for forging an alliance by our Top Leadership with the TMC is nothing but a blatant insult to those loyal soldiers of the Congress party only for some parochial interests and/or gains of certain leaders and their associates…Without hesitation, I can firmly say that in the present day scenario, the Indian National Congress has lost its political character.”

Advocate Koustav Bagchi gained fame last year when he was detained by the police for remarks he made about West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Later, he shaved his head and declared that he would stay bald as long as the TMC government in the state was in power.

On Wednesday, Bagchi, one of the Congress spokespersons in the state, said he has tendered his resignation letter to the Congress high command and West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

The only member of the All India Secular Front (AISF) in the West Bengal Assembly, Nawsad Siddique, was detained early on Tuesday morning while en route to Sandeshkhali. In this troubled area, ongoing protests have sparked new unrest.

BJP team stopped from going to Sandeshkhali in West Bengal, BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul says – Mamata Banerjee is scared

West Bengal: There are no indications that the uproar that started in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali will end. The BJP-formed committee was halted before it even got to Sandeshkhali. These leaders have been stopped citing Section 144.

In actuality, on Wednesday, February 15, BJP National President JP Nadda established a six-member high-level committee to look into the incidences of sexual harassment and violence against women in this area.

On Thursday, the same committee was arriving at the location. The committee will look into the matter and send JP Nadda, the president of the BJP, its full report after it is finished. The committee’s members are Pratibha Bhowmik, Sunita Duggal, Kavita Patidar, Sangeeta Yadav, and Brijlal. Union Minister Annapurna Devi has been appointed as the committee’s coordinator.

“This clearly shows how scared Mamata Banerjee and her government are,” remarks BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul. Union ministers are prohibited from leaving. We requested that only five individuals attend, but we were denied permission due to the imposition of Section 144. Even though we stated that just two ministers would travel, they are still being denied permission. The police have strict instructions that the central government delegation of the BJP should not be allowed. Mamata Banerjee knows what has happened. Hindu women have been raped, they want to suppress it. West Bengal is burning…”
