Free movement arrangement between India and Myanmar immediately suspended

Amid Myanmar‘s ongoing civil war, India has taken a big step. The Free Movement Arrangement (FMR) between India and Myanmar has been terminated by the Central Government. This information was provided by Union Home Minister Amit Shah via X (Twitter).

To maintain the demographic makeup of the northeastern Indian states that border Myanmar and to safeguard national security, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has decided to end the Free Movement Arrangement (FMR) between India and Myanmar. Currently, the Ministry of External Affairs is in the process of dismantling it, so the Home Ministry recommended it be suspended immediately.
