On Friday, Siddaramaiah, the chief minister of Karnataka, will unveil the Basaveshwara statue in the town of Athani and lay the cornerstone for other construction initiatives.
A drinking water and irrigation project will also be inaugurated by the Chief Minister in Kokatnura, in Athani taluk, later in the day. Afterward, he will meet with party leaders before returning to Bengaluru.
The Lingayat community in the Basaveshwara circle of Athani town reveres the idol of Basaveshwara. Apparently, the Lingayat voting base in north Karnataka is of great concern to the Congress leadership.
