“There is an obvious plot to turn the tribal community’s members against us. This plot is being orchestrated by the administration. Ajit Mahato, the head of the Kurmis, said that Kolkata was the main operation center for this scheme. However, he refused to name the “main brain” that he claimed.
As a result of ongoing protests demanding ST recognition and a more recent attack on the vehicle carrying Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, tensions between the Kurmi and the state administration have been on the rise for a while.
