Exit polls have been released following the conclusion of the last phase of elections. Observing the exit poll results for the Punjab elections, the Aam Aadmi Party appears to be sweeping the state with an impressive majority. Aam Aadmi Party is expected to replace Congress as Punjab’s number one party according to the Poll of Polls. Although, the SAD (Shiromani Akali Dal) and the BSP alliance (SAD-BSP) continue to rank third.

Please note that exit poll data are only estimates of election results. Various survey companies collect these data. The results of the assembly elections in these five states will be announced by the Election Commission on March 10.
On the basis of the Poll of Polls, it appears that Aam Aadmi Party will gain 59 to 75 seats in Punjab. Furthermore, the number of seats in Congress has been reduced to 24 to 32. As a result, only 2-6 seats are seen going to the BJP-PLC alliance, and the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party alliance appears to be bringing 13-19 seats. A poll of polls shows that 1-3 seats were given to others.
Leaders’ reaction to exit poll results
While the Congress is contesting in Punjab on the basis of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, the Aam Aadmi Party fielded Bhagwant Mann. The CM and Sunil Jakhar have emphasized that we should wait for the results on 10 March, following the disappointing performance of the Congress in the exit polls. Despite the exit poll results, AAP leader Raghav Chadha is optimistic that AAP is becoming a strong alternative to the Congress.
Punjab held elections on February 20
A single phase of elections was held in Punjab on February 20. About 72 percent of voters chose to exercise their franchise. The Legislative Assembly of Punjab consists of 117 members. A party will need 59 seats to form a government.
Who were the biggest names in the election?
In Amritsar East, Navjot Sidhu campaigned as Punjab Congress President. Furthermore, Charanjit Channi is also a candidate from Bhadaur, along with Chamkaur Sahib. In a surprise move, Dhuri has endorsed Bhagwant Mann for the AAP’s CM ticket. Amarinder Singh, who has resigned from the Congress, is running as an independent to fill the Patiala Urban seat. Sukhbir Badal, son of Parkash Singh Badal and chief of the SAD, is contesting the polls from Jalalabad this time around.
