If you are a ration card holder and take advantage of government ration, then there is important news for you. It is noteworthy that the National Food Security Act has made it mandatory for the ration beneficiaries to get the right amount of ration, for this, the central government has made it mandatory to connect the electronic point of sale (EPOS) devices with electronic scales at the ration shops. In order to increase transparency in ration shops and to prevent undercutting, the government has taken this step to weigh food grains for beneficiaries.
Know what the rule says
It is believed that the government is reforming the food grain weighing process under Section 12 of the Act to make the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) more transparent. Approximately 80 crore people receive five kilograms of wheat and rice (foodgrains) per year through the National Food Security Act (NFSA), subsidized at a rate of Rs 2-3 per kg.

Food Security 2015 has been amended in rule 7 of sub-rule (2) to incentivize states to provide rations through EPOS devices by introducing an additional profit of Rs.17.00 per quintal, officials said.
