Counting of votes at Congress Headquarters

Starting this morning at 10 am, the votes are being counted. The Congress office, located at 24 Akbar Road in New Delhi, is where the votes are currently being counted. Approximately 9500 delegates (members of the electoral college) including Congress President Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, and several other notable individuals cast their votes for the next Congress President.

After the election on October 17, ballot boxes were transported to the AICC office. The ballots will be mixed up before today’s voting, making it impossible to tell which contender received how many votes from which state. Congress President will be elected on September 22. According to the published election calendar, the nomination filing period will run from September 24 to September 30. October 8 is the final day for withdrawing nominations. Voting will take place on October 17 and results will be announced on October 19 if there are multiple candidates.
