Passing a ruling on the PIL filed by Howrah resident Ajay Kumar Dey, urging the government to implement the restrictions imposed last year during Durga Puja to contain the spread of Covid-19. The visitors will not be allowed into the pandals in West Bengal as well, according to the division bench of Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Kumar Bindal. The court’s last-year restrictions will also remain the same, he added.

The Advocate General, who appeared on behalf of the state, said the state government supports such restrictions if they are for the greater good of the people.

A division bench of the high court consisting of Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Arijit Banerjee held a public interest hearing last year and decided not to allow visitors to the marquees.

For pandals small and large, the court has ordered barricades be erected five meters from the entrance, 10 meters from the entrance for the largest pandals.

It had said barricades should have no entry signs. As part of the court’s order, only 15 to 25 members of the organizing committees were permitted to enter the pandals.

According to the court, organizers also need to provide masks and sanitizers to the visitors, conduct awareness campaigns, and make continuous announcements to keep people informed about the disease.

During this year’s Durga Puja and Kali Puja celebration, all of these restrictions will still apply.

A total of 708 new infections of COVID-19 were reported in West Bengal on Friday, with 13 deaths.

WhatsApp bans an average of around 8 million accounts per month in order to prevent abuse across its platform.

In its latest report, WhatsApp reported receiving 420 user feedbacks across 105 account-related reports, 222 ban appeals, 34 other reports, 42 product reports, and 17 safety reports during august. Based on the report, 41 accounts were “acted upon” during this period.

WhatsApp specifies that “Accounts Actioned” pertains to reports that have been dealt with by the company. A complaint resulted in either an account being banned or restoring an account that had been previously banned and the complaint was cleared.

Before, WhatsApp had emphasized that due to its end-to-end encryption, it did not have access to messages’ contents. Andrea Bocelli, Ellie Goulding, Lang Lang, Mohammed Abdu, and Chinese pianist Lang Lang were some of the stars who performed at the opening ceremony. Public spaces around the UAE were projected with images of the ceremony.

Dubai, the region’s tourism, business, and trade center, will host the world fair on 4.3 square kilometers of desert. Aiming to bring 25 million tourists and business visitors to the region, the region hopes to boost its economy.

In addition to boosting trade, the Expo is expected to boost investments by many countries and companies since it’s the first major event since the Coronavirus pandemic.

Exhibitors from almost 200 countries will be able to visit the expo site on Friday after being delayed almost a year by the pandemic. It cost around $6.8 billion. Held eight years after the Expo in Milan, it followed the 2015 Expo in Italy.

“Connecting Minds and Creating the Future” is Dubai‘s slogan for the Expo, which will feature culture, technology, and architecture. Besides showing the world’s creativity, the event will offer a forum for debate on global challenges such as climate change and economic growth.

Therefore, many events will be streamed online and many delegates may be reluctant to travel to the event. But Expo is still expected to attract more visitors than Milan did and more than twice as many people as the UAE.

“We are quite confident…that by being responsible in how we manage the situation with COVIV but also in how we put forward an exciting program for visitors, we will hopefully be able to thread the needle by opening up but remaining at the same time conservative and keep public safety first and foremost,” Reem Al Hashimy is the Director-General for Expo 2020 Dubai, he told Reuters.

Despite fewer restrictions on Coronavirus in the Gulf state, Expo still requires face masks to be worn and all visitors over 18 must be vaccinated against Coronavirus-19 if they don’t already have it.

There is a 25-paise rise in the price of petrol and a 30-paise increase in the price of diesel. OMCs have resumed increasing gasoline and diesel prices this month, which resulted in a fresh all-time high in fuel prices today.

The price per litre of petrol in Delhi is Rs 101.89, while those in Mumbai are almost Rs 108. Kolkata’s cost is Rs 102.47 per litre, while Chennai’s is Rs 99.58. There are now more cities in which petrol remains over 100 rupees per litre since the fresh round of hikes.

Oil companies have increased petrol and diesel prices as crude oil prices rose sharply recently. The price of crude oil has fallen for the past two days, but Goldman Sachs has suggested that it will cost $90 a barrel by the end of the year.

India, one of the largest oil importers in the world, is alarmed by the development, as it will experience a sharp increase in petroleum products.

Experts have expressed concern over high energy prices that have already led to a price increase for many goods. Fuel costs affect the costs of manufacturing and delivering goods since they directly impact input costs.

As fuel prices remain high, inflation will rise sharply, and the consumer demand that drives economic growth will be directly affected.

New blog posts from Google acknowledge the vulnerability and bring the Chrome update to mitigate it. As outlined in the blog, CVE-2021-37973 impacts Linux, Mac, and Windows users of Chrome. Microsoft has rolled out the Chrome stable channel 94.0.4606.61 for Windows, Macs, and Linux to protect customers from exploiting this risk.

What is a zero-day vulnerability?

Zero-day vulnerabilities have been identified as a security risk. Google managed to find and fix the problem through the update only after it had been actively attacked by hackers. “an exploit for CVE-2021-37973 exists in the wild.” Google wrote in the blog. Such vulnerabilities are more dangerous than regular security loopholes since hackers typically have a head start on security researchers and have already exploited them.

In order to prevent further exploitation of the security hole, Google has not yet provided any more information about the flaw. Once more people upgrade to Chrome’s latest version, more details are likely to become available as the flaw is no longer affecting Chrome users.

This is a Use-After-Free (UAF) vulnerability according to Google’s blog post. When dynamic memory is incorrectly used during program execution, such loopholes may exist. According to a note by Kaspersky, an attacker can exploit an error that occurs after a program frees a memory location if it fails to clear its pointer to that memory.

The Mid Day Meal Scheme renamed as ‘PM Poshan Scheme’ by the Centre

The Narendra Modi government shocked public policy observers when it renamed the midday meal scheme at schools the PM Poshan Scheme, announcing that it was an attempt to claim credit for an old program towards which his administration had been stingy.

“The cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA) has approved the PM POSHAN Scheme for providing hot meals to government and government-aided schools from 2021-22 to 2025-26,” said a release from the government’s press office, the Press Information Bureau (PIB).

The Prime Minister says he was behind the scheme after he had imposed massive budget cuts shortly after taking office in 2014, and it is mind-boggling to see him making that claim. “The midday meal budget today is about half of what it was seven years ago.”

In 2014-15, Modi’s first year in office, Rs 10,527 crore was released for the midday meal scheme, down from Rs 10,927 crore the previous year.

From Rs 9,096 crore to Rs 9,630 crore, the amount released in the subsequent five years.

Because the pandemic-induced school closure in 2020-21 meant all students covered under the program had to be provided with dry meals and money instead of having to eat all days, the government needed to release Rs 12,883 crore. According to the budget proposal for 2021-22, the scheme will cost Rs 11,500 crore.

In all, approximately 11.8 crore students attend 11.2 lakh schools that offer the scheme, which ensures that every child who takes classes or takes exams in a government or government-aided school gets a nutritious meal every day.

Ashok Rao, an activist affiliated with the nonprofit Swami Sivananda Memorial Institute supplying food to Anganwadi centers in Delhi, questioned the name change as well.

Madras Municipal Corporation launched this program in 1925 as a solution to help disadvantaged children who did not have access to education. Rao said the company expanded gradually.

Many states have individually adopted the scheme throughout the decades. After it was adopted at the national level by the P.V. Narasimha Rao government at the Centre in 1995, it was given the name National Programme of Nutritional Support to Primary Education and covered about 2,400 of the country’s 6,000 blocks.

In his view, the government should stop centralized kitchens right away because, as he said, eating at school increased local involvement and awareness.

“The purpose of the MDM Scheme is to provide nutritional support to children and raise awareness of the importance of proper nutrition. Local communities should manage it rather than centralised kitchens,” Rao said.
