On Wednesday, July 12, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Kochi handed down convictions to six defendants and exonerated five others in the infamous TJ Joseph hand-chopping case.
Sajil, MK Nasar, Najeeb KA, MK Noushad, PP Moideen Kunju, and PM Ayub were found guilty by the court, but the other defendants in the case were cleared.
After a drawn-out 12-year investigation, the second phase of the trial came to a close. In the first phase, 37 defendants were put on trial; 11 of them were found guilty in 2015, and 26 were found not guilty. The defendants who fled after the first phase of the trial was complete were the ones who were currently being tried. Police apprehended them after 2015.
