According to the Supreme Court, the government of Delhi is willing to take steps like a total lockdown to prevent air pollution. However, he said that its effect would be limited. Arvind Kejriwal’s government has asserted that a lockdown is necessary for Delhi as well as in neighboring areas, which are part of the National Capital Region (NCR).

Delhi’s government declared in its affidavit that it could impose a complete lockdown on local emissions if necessary. An initiative like this, however, will be meaningful only if it is implemented in the NCR regions of neighboring states. Considering Delhi’s compact size, the lockdown will have little effect on air quality.

The Delhi government said, ‘We are willing to consider taking this step. As part of the National Capital Region and adjoining areas, it may be made mandatory by the Government of India.”

Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi had said, “We are willing to consider this step if it is made mandatory for the whole NCR region by the Government of India or the Air Quality Management commission in the National Capital Region and adjoining areas.”.

In response to the alarming level of air pollution, the AAP government announced that no physical education classes would take place in schools during this week, and government officials would work from home. Private offices are also encouraged to work from home. Three days will also be closed for construction work.
