A few days prior, Vice Admiral SN Ghormade, Vice Chief of the Indian Navy, had stated that INS Vikrant would help to maintain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific and Indian Ocean region. According to him, the INS Vikrant flight test will begin in November and end in the middle of 2023. For the first several years, the MiG-29 planes will be piloted from the warship.
India’s self-reliance will increase
Indian defense self-reliance will take a significant stride forward with the commissioning of INS Vikrant. As part of the government of India’s ‘Make in India’ strategy, India will join a small group of nations with the induction of Vikrant into service, including the US, UK, Russia, China, and France, that have the capacity to domestically design and build an aircraft carrier. A true demonstration of the initiative will occur.
The warship was constructed using equipment and machinery that was indigenous to India that was provided by top industrial companies as well as more than 100 Small, Cottage, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). India’s maritime security would be strengthened with the addition of Vikrant, which will give the nation two operational aircraft carriers.
The domestic aircraft carrier, named “Vikrant,” was built by Cochin Shipyard Limited, a public sector shipyard under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, and was designed by the Warship Design Bureau (WDB), an institution of the Indian Navy. It bears the name of the person who was crucial to the outcome of the war in 1971. The word “Vikrant” signifies “brave” and “victory.”
