As part of their home schedule in February and March, India plays a Test and T20 series against Sri Lanka (India vs Sri Lanka). For the Test series, however, it is difficult to get four senior players in the team, including former vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane. All of them have failed to perform well. Rahul Dravid and the management were involved in making these decisions.
Inside Sports reports that in addition to Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, fast bowler Ishant Sharma and wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha will not make the Test team. According to a BCCI official, “The selectors are looking for some new faces. Players have been notified individually by the selectors. The decision was taken after talking to coach Rahul Dravid and some members of team management.”
The future will depend on Ranji’s performance
Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara have not performed well in Tests for the last two years. As per his board’s request, he must get the form in Ranji Trophy. The players are playing in a first-class tournament for their state team. His performance here will determine his future. Ishant Sharma and Saha are having a great time playing games together. Ishant Sharma and Saha have a good time. In such a situation, youth are given a chance to fill their place.
According to the official, the selectors feel that Ishant and Saha are the best of both. His age is too old. It is time for Team India to move on from him even though he has done well for them. His decision not to compete in the Ranji Trophy was also communicated to the Bengal Cricket Association. Ishant has played in more than 100 Tests for Team India.
