Indian Railways: As a result of a big decision by the Indian Railways, railway travel is now likely to get more expensive for the common man. From now on, railway passengers will be charged a fee in lieu of the development and redevelopment of railway stations.

Fees will be collected separately from passengers based on travel class as part of the Station Development Fee. The cost of rail travel will now vary from Rs 10 to Rs 50 for different categories. Railway has also set a number of rules for levying this fee. A letter was issued by Vipul Singhal, Director (Passenger Marketing) of the Railway Board in this regard.
