China locks down Lanzhou city

Beijing News: Residents of a city of four million in China were ordered not to leave their homes except in cases of emergency on Tuesday to combat a domestic coronavirus spike.

During the reporting period, 29 new covid infections were reported in China. Six of these cases have occurred in Lanzhou, the provincial capital of Gansu.

In Lanzhou, authorities announced a strict control on “entry and exit” by residents, limiting it to essential supplies or medical treatment.

“All types of residential communities are to implement closed management,” authorities said in a statement.

Tens of thousands of people in northern China have been ordered to remain at home under strict stay-at-home orders. The city is advising residents not to leave unless it is absolutely necessary. Residents also have limited access to tourist sites.

There were more than 100 cases across the country over the past week associated with China’s latest outbreak of the contagious Delta variant.

Boosted testing may lead to more infections in the coming days as the fight against the outbreak intensifies, A group of domestic tourists has been linked to the incident.
