For every aspiring candidate, passing the UPSC exam is the pinnacle of a career and getting into the top 3 index holders’ category is a feather in their cap. In the case of Jagrati Awasthi, the woman who topped the UPSC exam, it was a dream come true to have cleared the exam like all the other candidates.

Jagrati Awasthi is one of 761 candidates—out of 545 men and 216 women—who have passed the civil service exam 2020. As a result of her performance, Jagriti has earned a second-place overall in the UPSC qualifying examination.
Her degree is in BTech from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) in Bhopal and she is currently employed at Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL).
During the interview with Topper, Jagrati Awasthi speaks about the study strategy to get the second rank in UPSC. The childhood dream of Jagrati was to become a district collector and to do work in the social sector.

In an interview with India Today, she said that “I wanted to be an engineer initially and started my career as an electrical engineer, but then I realized I wanted to do something more meaningful and contribute in my own little way in society. I realized civil services was best suited for this, and therefore I took the plunge,”
It is Jagrati’s parents and brother who deserve all the credit for her success. As well as thanking her teachers for their guidance, she thanked her parents.
Eventually, all coaching centers closed due to Covid-19. Even without coaching classes, Jagrati maintained her motivation levels strong at home, as it was far too important for her to keep up with her studies.

On Friday, UPSC announced the result of the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2020, wherein Jagrati Awasthi came in the second rank.
