Air quality in Delhi reaches severe category, schools closed after AQI crosses 400

Delhi Pollution: Delhi-NCR‘s air quality has fallen into the severe category. Poisonous air is suffocating to breathe. The amount of pollutants in the air has increased, and this air pollution enters the body through the breath and obstructs lung function.

The Central Pollution Control Board states that an AQI reading in Delhi that is higher than 450 is harmful. Polluted air is most harmful to children, the elderly, and asthmatics. Due to the rising levels of air pollution, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal declared on Thursday night that all public and private elementary schools in the city will be closed for the next two days.

DMRC announced in a statement that it will add 20 more train rides to its network starting tomorrow, November 3, 2023 (Friday), in response to the third phase of the GRAP, which aims to reduce pollution in Delhi.

Ban on sale and burning of firecrackers on Diwali in Delhi this year too – Gov has given instructions

Ban On Firecrackers On Diwali: Like last year, this time too the ban on sale and burning of firecrackers on Diwali will continue in Delhi. These directives have been given to Delhi Police by the Delhi Government.

The ruling states that all firecracker production, storage, and sales will be prohibited in the nation’s capital. Firecracker licenses will not be issued to anyone according to the instructions given to the Delhi Police.

Fireworks have been prohibited for a number of years due to air pollution. Additionally, the Delhi government has urged the bordering states to outlaw the sale of fireworks. According to the Delhi government, this has been prohibited as part of an action plan to reduce wintertime pollution.

Preparation of lockdown in Delhi-NCR, AAP Govt spoke to the Supreme Court on air pollution

According to the Supreme Court, the government of Delhi is willing to take steps like a total lockdown to prevent air pollution. However, he said that its effect would be limited. Arvind Kejriwal’s government has asserted that a lockdown is necessary for Delhi as well as in neighboring areas, which are part of the National Capital Region (NCR).

Delhi’s government declared in its affidavit that it could impose a complete lockdown on local emissions if necessary. An initiative like this, however, will be meaningful only if it is implemented in the NCR regions of neighboring states. Considering Delhi’s compact size, the lockdown will have little effect on air quality.

The Delhi government said, ‘We are willing to consider taking this step. As part of the National Capital Region and adjoining areas, it may be made mandatory by the Government of India.”

Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi had said, “We are willing to consider this step if it is made mandatory for the whole NCR region by the Government of India or the Air Quality Management commission in the National Capital Region and adjoining areas.”.

In response to the alarming level of air pollution, the AAP government announced that no physical education classes would take place in schools during this week, and government officials would work from home. Private offices are also encouraged to work from home. Three days will also be closed for construction work.
