Instagram cuts the pay of creators on reels by 70 percent

Instagram, which is owned by Meta, has cut creator payouts by up to 70% and raised the threshold for monetization. To continue to be paid, creators would have to get millions of views on the video after the pay per view was reduced by at least 70 percent, according to The Financial Times.

Instagram has yet to notify an Instagram creator about changes to its payout system.

The Financial Times reported that one producer had increased his personal limit from 58 million views to 359 million views in order to be paid about $35,000.

Meta announced late Wednesday that it is testing reel bonuses on Instagram and Facebook, which could lead to “fluctuating” payouts once the pricing models have been proven.

Creators can earn rewards for posting on Reels after Instagram introduced the ‘Reels Play Bonus Program‘ in July of last year.

According to reports, Instagram has begun offering bonuses of up to $10,000 to those who post videos to their reels in an attempt to attract content creators. The company plans on personalizing the bonus system soon.

Similar creator retention programs are available on several other social networks, such as TikTok and Snapchat.

As the vice-chairman and co-CEO of the company, Han Jong-hee, pointed out at a meeting at the company’s headquarters, “We will develop Metaverse devices and solutions enabling users to access the Metaverse anytime and anywhere.”

According to South Korean news outlet Hankyung, Samsung Electronics has announced that its move into the metaverse will remain, as experts predict future growth owing to the weak performance of the company’s stock and signs of a shortage.

Moreover, Samsung has not made any significant acquisitions since 2016, so some say its future preparations are lax like those of its competitors. You may be interested in knowing that the company acquired Harman in 2016 for $ 80 million (roughly Rs 60,640 crore).

In a recent interview with Korea JoongAng Daily, the company’s vice chairman revealed that the Metaverse project motivated the company to produce new hardware. Though Han provided too little information for speculation, it is believed that Samsung could join Meta and Microsoft is placing a big bet on it.

‘Please wait until the Metaverse device launches because we are hard at work,’ said Han, the head of both mobile communications and consumer electronics at Samsung Electronics.

In a report by Engadget, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that NFT will come to Instagram. NFT will be added to Instagram within the next few months, he said.

The beginning of the year also brought news of Facebook and Instagram preparing to integrate NFT with their platforms. Such features will be offered on Instagram and Facebook, under which NFT will be able to be set in the profile itself.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg has stated that NFT will come to Instagram, but it is unclear how the app will be used or how the company will implement it.

What is NFT?

The company may launch its NFT marketplace on Instagram or Facebook. NFTs can be purchased and sold on many websites. Similarly, NFTs can be posted on both platforms and those who wish to purchase can do so here only.

NFT transactions are done using cryptocurrencies, which presents a problem. As a result of the introduction of NFT, the company can now accept cryptocurrency transactions on its platforms.

Additionally, cryptocurrency payments are being tested within the instant messaging app WhatsApp. As of recently, WhatsApp head Will Cathcart stated that cryptocurrencies could be sent through WhatsApp in the future. Testing has begun.

Cryptocurrencies and NFTs are a part of Meta’s Metaverse plan. Since the company has invested significantly in the Metaverse, it is necessary that it integrates cryptocurrencies and NFTs on its platform.

Additionally, the company informed the OTT platform

These disappointing results are also attributed to OTT platforms like Netflix, according to the company. The fourth quarter of last year saw Meta generate profits of $10.3 billion. This didn’t lead to a rise in daily users despite this. Despite the change of name to Metaverse at the end of October, this is the first result the company has posted since then.

Also to blame are India’s rising data prices

During the last two quarters of the year, Facebook lost nearly 1 million daily users. However, 2 billion people still use the app daily. David Weiner, the company’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), said that adverse circumstances have reduced users worldwide. There is also the Corona pandemic in the Asia-Pacific region and the rising cost of mobile data in India. Competition service growth has been negatively impacted by these factors. Particularly youth usage has decreased.

Profits have decreased by 8 percent compared to 2020

However, the company has faced a number of abuse investigations and complaints. At the same time, executives have repeatedly claimed that Tiktok faces competition from other networks. Meta reported only 1.93 billion daily active Facebook users, instead of the expected 1.95 billion. A net profit of $10.3 billion was reported by Meteor in the fourth quarter of last year, a decrease of 8 percent from 2020, but sales remained strong at $33.67 billion.

Meta attributed the poor performance to competition and disruptions in the supply chain, which adversely affected customers and advertisers. The company’s financial results in the fourth quarter were also negatively impacted by Apple’s advertising rules last year.

People can express themselves more freely with avatars. Assistive devices and new facial shapes have been introduced by the company for people with disabilities. Avatars’ skin shaders have also been tweaked for a more authentic look.

Meta Introduces 3D Avatars to Instagram Stories

Facebook and Messenger are also receiving new 3D avatars from Meta. The feature will allow users to display their virtual self across apps in addition to stickers, feed posts, and Facebook profile pictures.

U.S., Canadian, and Mexican users can create 3D avatars at present. Apparently, the third dimension will automatically be added to the user’s avatar with this update.

“Since we unveiled our long-term vision for the metaverse at Connect 2021, we have been building out this next evolution of social and mobile technology, building toward a future in which you can be in the same room with loved ones who are thousands of miles apart or work naturally with a talented team that spans the globe,” Aigerim Shorman, Meta’s general manager for avatars and identity, wrote in a blog post.

It has been Meta’s top priority for a long time to realize its dream of a metaverse, which 3D avatars are very early steps toward achieving. During the Metaverse preview event held at Facebook Connect in October last year, Meta previously demonstrated its Codec avatars and real-time environment rendering.

Facebook-Meta Earns the ‘Worst Company of 2021’ Title in Survey

This is based on a survey conducted by Yahoo! This year’s worst company was Facebook, now known as Meta, according to Finance’s annual list of the best and worst companies from around the world.

The Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, which was runner-up, received 50% more support than the worst companies. Microsoft, however, was named the best company of the year.

Through Survey Monkey, a Yahoo!-powered open-ended survey was conducted. From Dec. 4 to Dec. 5, there were 1,541 visitors to the finance homepage.

Facebook and Meta were marked as the “Worst Company of the Year 2021” by individuals who were concerned about censorship. Some of these individuals felt the “free-speech-police” was unfair and they should have the right to express themselves as they please.

According to others, the rise of far-right extreme views in recent years can be attributed to Facebook or Meta. Meta was even accused by one respondent of “undermining democracy worldwide.”

A Facebook or Meta-owned app, Instagram, has also been cited as a concern regarding children’s mental health and its impact on mental health.

In response to a comment, a respondent suggested Facebook apologize for its actions and donate a significant portion of its profits to reverse the harm it caused. Others were intrigued by the idea of the Meta rebrand, seeing it as both something new and something different from the aging social media model. Many responses referred to executives and Mark Zuckerberg as the founder and CEO.

Only three out of ten survey participants believe that Facebook can recover from its mistakes, which indicates that the credibility of the company is also lacking.

At the other end of the spectrum, Yahoo Finance named the Microsoft Company of the Year for 2021 as a result of its $2 trillion market cap and a 53% gain in its stock price year-to-date.

According to 9To5Mac, in the Reels Play bonus program, creators will have the opportunity to earn up to $10,000 if their short videos called “Reels” are posted.

The bonus program’s rules, however, are unclear to users, according to TechCrunch. Several people with more than 50,000 followers earn more than $1,000 each month, but those with fewer followers earn only $600. Other creators reported being offered $800 if they reached 1.7 million views on all their Reels in one month.

Users can “expect them to fluctuate as Instagram tests its bonus program with a small number of creators.” Instagram says that the bonus program is still in its infancy.

Bonuses will be more individualized in the future, the company claims. At present, these bonuses are “rolling out slowly” and not all users are eligible. You can only receive this bonus if you live in the United States.
