At the age of 97, prominent attorney and former law minister Shanti Bhushan passed away. Additionally, Shanti Bhushan was linked to numerous political and social movements. He had been ailing for a while.

Shanti Bhushan participated actively in both the Congress (O) and, later, the Janata Parties. Additionally, he served as a Rajya Sabha member from 14 July 1977 to 2 April 1980. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1980. He left the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1986 because the party rejected his advice on an electoral petition.
