Corona cases increasing again after 6 months in Mumbai, 922 new cases came in 24 hours

In Mumbai, 922 new cases of Covid19 infection were reported on Sunday, increasing the number of people infected to 7,71,112. In the same period, two people died from infection, bringing the death toll to 16,370. A representative of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) provided this information. The number of people who have recovered from the infection has grown to 7,47,864 after 326 people left hospitals in the last 24 hours.

There are currently 4,295 patients being treated in Mumbai. On Sunday, 34,819 samples were tested in the country’s financial capital, bringing the total to 1,34,48,858 samples tested over the course of the week.

From 2,081 active cases on 19 December, Mumbai now has 4,295 after increasing steadily in the past week. For the sixth straight day, the number of cases in Mumbai increased. Thirty-one new cases of Omicron have been reported in Maharashtra, now totaling 141

As of Sunday, 31 new cases of Omicron were reported in Maharashtra, increasing the total number of people infected with this virus to 141. A statement from the Mumbai Health Department said 27 new cases of Omicron have been reported in the city, bringing the total to 73. Korea develops new technology for detecting Omicron, investigation will be done within 20 minutes

Researchers in Korea have developed a Molecular Diagnostic Technology that can identify different Omicron variants. With the new technology, it will be possible to determine whether a person is infected with Omicron in only 20 minutes. Research on this subject was completed recently, though it may take some time for it to reach the public.

On October 10, POSTECH announced the development of molecular diagnostics by a team under the guidance of Professor Lee Jung-wook from the Department of Chemical Engineering. An Omicron variant detection tool that yields results in just 20-30 minutes and can be accessed online.

Molecular diagnostic technology can detect ‘stealth omicrons’ that would otherwise be difficult to detect by RT-PCR, reports the research team. Therefore, it can identify mutations at the base of each nucleotide. COVID-19 variants are currently detected by three methods at Korea’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: whole-genome sequencing, target DNA analysis (spike protein-like mutations), and RT-PCR testing.

What is the process behind this technique?

RT-PCR is effective in detecting delta variants, but it is not effective in detecting Omicron. As opposed to DNA or RNA sequencing, molecular diagnostics is the newly developed technology. Current technology is able to detect only a few viruses. However, forensic molecular diagnostics aims to determine which nucleic acid is binding to the nucleic acid in order to detect COVID-19 RNA as soon as it is detected.

In Professor Lee’s opinion, the RT-PCR test can detect N genes close to Omicron, but it has trouble detecting them near the N gene. It is difficult to distinguish ‘stealth omicron’ from other variants since both N and S genes are positive. Omicron is successfully detected using molecular diagnostic technology rather than RT-PCR.

16 districts in Karnataka report a surge in Covid cases, Christmas and New Year celebrations are likely to be banned

Shivamogga and Koppal have seen a four-fold increase. Shivamogga reported 28 cases of covid between 18-25 November. The number of cases rose 430 percent between November 26 and December 3. During the period between November 26 and December 3, Koppal reported four cases, down from zero between November 25 and 18. During the same period, Bengaluru Urban reported an increase in Covid cases from 995 to 1,167.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai told health department sources that the government had no agenda for banning activities and gatherings. After analyzing the state’s situation, he said he will make an appropriate decision in the coming days.

In the last 95 days, the rate has been below 3 percent, according to the ministry.

Over one crore vaccine doses have been administered during the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive, exceeding the 87 crore doses that have been administered so far.
