Corona’s third wave may peak by February 3 from Omicron, claims IIT

Coronavirus cases are steadily increasing around the world. In some countries, like Britain, new Corona cases are breaking records. New cases of the new variant of the Coronavirus, Omicron, are also increasing in India, which has raised concerns.

The third wave of Coronavirus is also being speculated about by experts in India. Additionally, researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur conducted a study. According to him, the Omicron variant may bring the third wave of Coronavirus into the country. Additionally, they claim that by February 3, it may reach its peak in the country.

IIT researchers have used a statistical tool called the Gaussian Mixer Model to estimate the third wave of Covid in India. In a report published by the preprint server MedRxiv, the authors state that given the existing trend of coronas across the globe, this model is expected to begin the third wave of coronas in India by mid-December year. Early February may also be a peak time.

Based on the first and second Coronavirus outbreaks in India and the current cases of Omicron in other countries, researchers have estimated a third wave could occur in India. In early December, IIT scientists predicted the third wave of the corona.

Manindra Agarwal, a scientist at the Indian Institute of Technology involved in the mathematical estimate of Coronavirus-19, predicted in early December that the third wave of Coronavirus cases may peak in late February when the number exceeds one lakh per day. The number of reported cases may reach 1.5 lakh.

Based on our current estimation with the new variants, the third wave will likely hit our country in February, but it will be a lighter one than the second. According to our observations, Omicron’s severity of infection differs significantly from that of the delta variant.

The antiviral Covid pill from Pfizer has been shown to be 90% effective in treating Corona. Using this drug can reduce the risk of death or hospitalization for patients at high risk. Additionally, this drug has also been found to be effective against the new Corona variant called Omicron.

People with Corona who take the tablet Paxlovid have a low risk of dying. A tablet, which was developed by FDA scientist Patrizia Cavazzoni, has been successfully used to treat Corona virus in many countries of the world. Corona virus is a form of Covid. This is a landmark moment in the global battle against Corona.

Chief Executive Officer and President of Pfizer Albert Borula said the results of testing this tablet on 2,200 people who were being treated for Corona in the hospital were unexpected. By taking tablets, you can reduce your risk of death by as much as 88 percent.

Working against Omicron

A variant of Omicron has just been detected. That is why the company has not tested it yet. While in the meantime, experts claim that since the way the tablet works differs slightly from antibodies or vaccines, this tablet will be effective even against Corona variants other than Omicron.

Is the Paxlovid pill at risk?

Paxlovid tablet was approved by the US Drug Controller USFDA committee. The committee members have all approved it. There have been no security risks identified by the committee. Protease is inhibited by Paxlovid Tablet. Proteinase is an enzyme that aids in virus replication.

In a week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported an increase in Omicron infections of nearly sixfold. Many parts of the country are even more prone to Omicron. In New York, the Southeast, Midwest, and the Pacific Northwest, Omicron is known to cause 90 percent of all new infections.

Korea develops new technology for detecting Omicron, investigation will be done within 20 minutes

Researchers in Korea have developed a Molecular Diagnostic Technology that can identify different Omicron variants. With the new technology, it will be possible to determine whether a person is infected with Omicron in only 20 minutes. Research on this subject was completed recently, though it may take some time for it to reach the public.

On October 10, POSTECH announced the development of molecular diagnostics by a team under the guidance of Professor Lee Jung-wook from the Department of Chemical Engineering. An Omicron variant detection tool that yields results in just 20-30 minutes and can be accessed online.

Molecular diagnostic technology can detect ‘stealth omicrons’ that would otherwise be difficult to detect by RT-PCR, reports the research team. Therefore, it can identify mutations at the base of each nucleotide. COVID-19 variants are currently detected by three methods at Korea’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: whole-genome sequencing, target DNA analysis (spike protein-like mutations), and RT-PCR testing.

What is the process behind this technique?

RT-PCR is effective in detecting delta variants, but it is not effective in detecting Omicron. As opposed to DNA or RNA sequencing, molecular diagnostics is the newly developed technology. Current technology is able to detect only a few viruses. However, forensic molecular diagnostics aims to determine which nucleic acid is binding to the nucleic acid in order to detect COVID-19 RNA as soon as it is detected.

In Professor Lee’s opinion, the RT-PCR test can detect N genes close to Omicron, but it has trouble detecting them near the N gene. It is difficult to distinguish ‘stealth omicron’ from other variants since both N and S genes are positive. Omicron is successfully detected using molecular diagnostic technology rather than RT-PCR.
