Internet ban extended till June 10 amid ongoing violence in Manipur

The government of Manipur has extended the ban on internet and data services for five more days with immediate effect in an effort to preserve public order and prevent disturbances.

The Manipuri government has given new directives. There has been a further extension of the suspension of internet services in the state for five days i.e. until June 10 at 3 pm.

Following a protest by the All Tribal Students’ Union of Manipur (ATSUM) on May 3, fighting between Christian and Hindu Meitei tribal groups in Manipur broke out.

The entire state has been experiencing unrest for the past month, and the central government has to use paramilitary forces to get things under control. A total of 10,000 Army and Assam Rifles men have been sent to the state to restore order.
