Kullu Bus Accident: Bus fell into a ditch in Himachal’s Kullu, 20 people died, school children were also on the bus

A major road accident has happened in Himachal Pradesh‘s Kullu and so far more than 20 people including school children have died in the accident, while many people are said to be injured. A bus fell into a gorge in the Sainj valley of Kullu district, where children were also aboard. After the accident, the bodies of 16 people have been taken out so far and many people are still buried.

The accident happened at 8.30 am near Jangla village

According to Kullu Deputy Commissioner Ashutosh Garg, the bus from Kullu to Sainj in Himachal Pradesh crashed into a gorge close to Jangla village at around 8.30 am. According to him, the Kullu district’s officials and rescue personnel have arrived on the scene, and the injured are being sent to a local hospital.

Single use plastic ban across the country from today, action will be taken for breaking the rules

Single Use Plastic Ban: In view of the increasing pollution in the country and the damage caused to the environment, the government has made a big decision. The country has banned the use of single-use plastics today. Currently, 19 items made of single-use plastic have been prohibited by the government. From today there is a ban on making, selling, using, storing, and exporting these things. At the same time, making or selling these things will be punished with imprisonment of 7 years and a fine up to 1 lakh under Environment Act Section 15.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change had notified the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules, 2021 on 12 August 2021 itself, but the ban will be implemented from this month itself.

The government believes that this ban will help in curbing pollution caused by litter and unmanaged plastic waste. Along with this, single-use plastic items will be phased out by 2022.

What is single-use plastic?

Plastic items that we only use once are referred to as single-use items. Once used they are thrown away. Usually, they are also called ‘disposable’.

What things has the government banned?

As of today, 19 items have been banned by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Plastic stick earbuds, plastic stick for balloons, plastic flag, candy stick, ice cream stick thermocol, plastic plate, cup, tumbler, fork (barbed spoon), spoon, knife, straw, tray, wrap sweet box or packaging film, invitation cards, cigarette packets, PVC banners (less than 100 microns), stirrers (sticks used for dissolving beverages).

According to the Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016, all plastic pouches for storage, packing, or sale of gutka, tobacco, and pan masala are also banned.

What will be the action for breaking the rules?

In order to prevent the use of single-use plastics, fines and punishments have been implemented. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, if single-use plastic waste is generated from the house, then a fine of Rs 500 will be imposed. At the same time, if any institution or company spreads garbage, a fine of Rs 5 thousand will be charged.
