As Sandhya Mukherjee’s blood pressure dropped earlier in the day, she was placed on vasopressor support. Her death was due to a serious heart attack, a senior hospital official told PTI.

She tested positive for Covid-19, as well as cardiac ailments, multi-organ dysfunction and a fractured femur due to a fall. Her breathlessness had led to her being taken from her residence to the SSKM Hospital, Kolkata, in January.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee spoke of Sandhya-di’s Covid positivity when she visited her hospital then. Her heart has also been diagnosed as having problems. SSKM Hospital does not treat Covid patients, so we will move her to a private hospital. “We want Sandhya-di to receive the best treatment.”

SD Burman, Madan Mohan, Naushad, Anil Biswas, and Salil Chaudhury were some of the renowned music directors with whom she has worked. Sandhya is survived by her daughter. Recently, the singer refused to accept a Padma Shri award when central government officials contacted her by telephone for her acceptance.

Among her many awards are the Banga Bibhushan, a state award, and the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer. Sandhya is a classical and semi-classical singer who has appeared in several Bengali movies as well as a few Hindi films.
