The earthquake struck the area at 04:07 GMT, with its epicenter located at 133.74 degrees east longitude and 4.03 degrees south latitude. It was 10.0 kilometers deep.
According to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 occurred on Monday in the Indonesia province of North Maluku. According to the agency, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 168 kilometers (104 miles) beneath the surface, 11 kilometers (6.8 miles) northeast of the town of Jailolo in North Maluku.
